Lekker Bikes: who we are

Launched early 2009, our Amsterdam based bicycle brand LEKKER has captured the attention of urban cyclist worldwide. We have taken the widely acclaimed Dutch Bicycle Design – that has been part of our culture since 1885 – and added modern day technology to offer everything a daily commuter could only ask for. This resulted in a striking range of LEKKER Bicycles to inspire the world to embrace cycling like the Dutch.

It was founder Meindert who left Amsterdam for Australia’s Bondi Beach and immediately fell in love with all that Australia has to offer. But, there was just one thing missing: his bicycle.

A commuter bike that he could ride to and from the beach, to Varsity, to the market, to his buddy’s house, and then home. Meindert wanted a Dutch-design bike, but finding such a two-wheeler proved to be difficult, and he ended up buying a bike from one of his Dutch friends.

Enthusiastic responses to his bike from Australians inspired him to bring a quality, beautiful, stylish and, above all, cool bicycle to Down Under. He wanted to create a bike that would ride and look like a dream. The series of bikes took shape in late 2009. No word could better describe what he had always envisaged the bike to be: LEKKER.

In other words: Born in Amsterdam, Raised in Australia.

How often do I need to service my Lekker Bicycle?

Although we have designed and built your Lekker Bike to stand the test of time, it does need some regular love and care. We advise you to give your bike some proper attention every 2-3 months and bring it to a professional bike mechanic once every year. It will significantly improve your comfort, safety and your bikes’ health.

Where can I service my Lekker Bike?

You can service your Lekker bike at any bike dealer or bike shop. We use components which are easy to replace and source, and that all better bike dealers have access to. We’re also always able to provide service through our brand stores or refer you to one of our partners. We’re even happy to get you up to speed on servicing your bike – because pumping a tire isn’t that hard. We promise, mate.

Do I need to make an appointment for an inspection?

If you want to come around one of our stores for your first free service, we always advise making an appointment. And just so you know – when you service your Lekker bike with us you’re always welcome to borrow a bike from us while your own bike is getting some well-deserved TLC.

Where can I find the serial number of my bike?

You’ll find the serial number unique to your Lekker Bike just underneath the bottom bracket of the bike.

Where can I register my bike to assist in the event of theft?

If you live in Australia, you can register your bicycle with the National Bike Register which was initiated by Police to combat bike theft. Thousands of bikes are stolen every year. Bikes are easy to steal, difficult to identify and a quick and easy earn for organised and opportunistic thieves. Police departments use these databases to check for ownership when they receive recovered bikes. When a bike is marked stolen, it gives them a quick way to get in touch and reunite the bike with the rightful owner. The best chance of recovering a stolen bicycle is by having a registered serial number. We strongly recommend registering the serial number of each Lekker Bicycle in your ownership. The information you’ll need to register your bike is the following:

  • Bike Serial Number
  • Bike Make, Model and other identifying information
  • Description of componentry
  • Accessories

The unique serial number identifies the make and the model of your bike. You’ll find the serial number just underneath the bottom bracket of the bike where the crank arms meet the frame.

Which countries do you ship to?

We’ll ship your Lekker Bicycle right to your front door – quick, easy and insured. From our Australia platform, we cover shipments all over Australia nation-wide. Make sure to check the region selector here on the website as we have a specific online store for the US and Europe.

What are the shipping costs?

Depending on your preference, we offer you two different shipping options;

85% Front Door Shipping – quick, safe and available throughout Australia.

Your order will be processed within 24 hours, and your new bike will be insured all the way to your front door. Low-cost shipping rates apply, and most accessories are shipped free of charge with any bike purchase.

Your bicycle will arrive 85% assembled in a box, and you can build it up on your terms. We’ll provide necessary manuals and assistance if needed.

Your order will be carefully built and prepared for shipment at our Lekker Bikes HQ in Melbourne. It will take up to 5-8 business days to have your bike shipped and delivered. It’s been thoroughly checked and serviced already by us. Too easy!

What is the delivery time for your products?

We always aim to get your bike to you within six business days. However, bikes are rather big and not very easy to ship, so sometimes it might take a bit longer.

Can I change my billing or shipping address after I’ve placed my order?

How difficult is it to assemble the bike myself?

What do I need to bring when I pick up my bike through in-store pickup?

When picking up your new bike at one of your brand store you need to bring your proof of payment (meaning the receipt you received by email when ordering your bike online). You also need to bring and your ID.

How does your 14-day return work?

We offer a 14-day return-free policy. No questions asked! You have a good two weeks to try your bicycle and if your not happy please let us know. Simply send us an email at info.au@lekkerbikes.com. We do strongly advise to keep the box in case you have doubts, as this will simplify the return shipment massively, and saves some double packing. You’ll receive a prepaid returns label and you can schedule a pick-up at a time which suits you.

I have received the wrong product/missing one of my products. What should I do?

How and when will I receive my refund?

Once we’ve received the product and done a quick check that it’s unused and unharmed, we’ll set the return process in motion. After that, you’ll have your reimbursement within 14 business days.

What payment methods can I use?

When ordering online, you can choose to pay with most major credit cards; we accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. You can also choose to pay with PayPal or partly finance your bike through Zip Money or AfterPay. We don’t offer gift cards at the moment.

What sort of warranty and guarantee covers my Lekker Bicycle?

We offer a 2-year guarantee on our frames. We also give 2 years warranty on the components of our different models on the day of purchase. This guarantee is only for replaceable components. Unfortunately, our warranty is not transferable and can only be used by the original buyer of a Lekker product. If you want to use the warranty, please ensure you have your receipt and go the original shop in which you made your purchase.

There are cases where our warranty is void. Our guarantee does not cover wear and tear, incorrect assembly or maintenance. There is no warranty in case of; damage caused by accidents, improper use or negligence. Our warranty is also void in the case that changes have been made to the original design.

A small note on shipping: big boxes takes some shipping companies a bit more time to ship, and Australia is a pretty big country. But don’t worry, we always work hard to deliver your bike to you on time.

Can I customise my Lekker Bike?

At this moment, we don’t offer customisation of our bikes. If you feel a bit extra, you can always spice up your new Lekker Bike with our premium selection of accessories available through our webshop. If you want to change the colour of your saddle or any other small changes, always inquire with us. We are always happy to see if we can fulfil your vision for the perfect bike.

Regular service and maintenance

Although we have designed and built your Lekker Bike to stand the test of time, it does need some regular love and care. Be sure to follow the above steps to keep your bike in tip-top condition. We advise you to give your bike some regular care every 2-3 months and bring it to a professional bike mechanic once every year. It will significantly improve your comfort, safety and your bikes’ health.

Tyres

Tyres can soften in as little as a week. Regular pumping of the tyres will ensure the tyres last as long as possible and that you will roll with speed. Tyres that are low can make it easier to puncture tubes and dent rims if you hit a pothole. Regular pumping is very important.

Lube like a champ

Lubrication of the chain is vital and will ensure the most life out of your gearing system. Be sure not to over lubricate as this will attract grit and dust. Apply a small amount of oil to moving parts and use a rag to dry off excess oil. You can tell a chain needs lube when you hear squeaking and the chain links look like shiny bare metal.

Let’s clean

It is essential to clean your bicycle after messy conditions like mud or rain. Rain will get dirt and grit into the brake pads and other parts of the bike. Be sure to clean and dry your bicycle after these conditions to ensure your components last longer and stay happy.

What accessories are standard on a Lekker Bike?

All our Dutch style bikes (the Jordaan and Jordaan+) comes with everything you need; The Jordaan includes a colour matching aluminium rear carrier rack (25 kg capacity) and bungies, premium LED front + rear lights and an aluminium front carrier rack with a 10 kg capacity. Our Amsterdam series are made to be more lightweight, so we leave it up to you to add what you need from our selection of premium accessories available through our webshop.

Do I need to buy lights for my bike?

All our Dutch style bikes (the Jordaan and the Sportief) comes with everything you need; the Sportief includes premium LED front + rear lights. The Jordaan includes premium LED front + rear lights. Our Amsterdam series are made to be more lightweight, so we leave it up to you to choose what you want to add from our selection of premium accessories available through our webshop.

Is it possible to attach a kids seat to all Lekker Bikes?

You can add a kid’s seat on all our Lekker bicycles. With that being said, the Jordaan and the E-Jordaan series are most suitable for attaching kids’ seats because of its longer wheelbase, which creates more space for a front and/or a rear kids’ seat. It’s the stereotypical Dutch transportation bike designed for getting the whole family around the city. The Sportief also offers you the option to fit a front and rear kid’s seat. The Amsterdam series offers the option to fit a rear baby seat.

Which body measurements are needed to choose the size of my Lekker bicycle?

Our bicycles are designed with simplicity in mind and fit a wide range of riders. As long as you are no shorter than 150 cm and no taller than 210 cm, we will have a LEKKER Bicycle perfect for you. I’m kinda’ short, which bike fits me best?

For women’s bikes, our most accessible option is our 42 cm frame size. Both the Jordaan and the Sportief series are available in 42 cm size and are therefore ideally suited for you.

But so that you know; a style we see in the Netherlands is that female riders also go for the Amsterdam frame in 52 cm size – a diamond-shaped frame size with a horizontal front tube. However, the diamond-shaped frame makes the Amsterdam it a little bit more difficult to jump on.

For our men’s bikes, our most accessible bikes are the Amsterdam, Sportief and Jordaan series in the 52 cm frame size option.

I’m kinda’ tall, which bike fits me best?

For our women’s bikes, the Jordaan is the larger bicycle in our product range. Its wider wheelbase creates more space between the handlebar and the saddle, leaving more space for your upper body. The Sportief with a 52 cm frame size is also a little bit bigger, but the wheelbase is somewhat shorter than the Jordaan 52 cm frame size. If you want to go for a little bit bigger Dutch-style bike, the Jordaan series is probably the best choice for you.

The tallest men’s frame we have in our assortment are the 62 cm frame sizes. Please note to double check your stand-over height when choosing frame size as the difference between the 58 cm and the 62 cm frame size can be quite significant. The choice between the 58 cm and the 62 cm frame is based on the length of your upper body and legs and therefore differs for everyone.

Where can I test ride a Lekker Bike?

We care about you. That’s why we want to offer you the chance to try before you buy. We always offer you the possibility to test ride our bikes at our Brand Stores in Amsterdam, Sydney and Melbourne.

What’s new is that you can make an appointment to try one of our bikes before you decide to buy. We have all models available at our brand store, but by making an appointment, you can be sure that the bike you like (pun intended!) is available. You’ll find the test-ride booking page through each bikes product page. Be sure not to miss out and make an appointment today!

Lekker Bikes are also available in Australia through our dealers. You’ll find your closest dealer on our dealer page.

Is the nearest Lekker Bike Brand Store or dealer a bit too far away? Don’t worry. We offer an extensive 14-day cancellation policy that makes it possible for you to order your bike, try it, and then return it to us if you’ve changed your mind. Just make sure to keep the packaging and return the bike in original condition. We don’t think you’ll change your mind though. In our own experience – once you go LEKKER, you won’t go back.

Will I receive the same bike as pictured online?

For sure! All bikes come as you see them pictured on the website, accessories and all. What you see is what you get, mate.

What accessories are standard on a Lekker Bike?

All our Dutch style bikes (the Jordaan and Jordaan+) comes with everything you need. The Jordaan includes a colour matching aluminium rear carrier rack (25 kg capacity) and bungies, premium LED front + rear lights and an aluminium front carrier rack with a 10 kg capacity. Our Amsterdam series are made to be more lightweight, so we leave it up to you to add what you need from our selection of premium accessories available through our webshop.

Do I need to buy lights for my bike?

All our Dutch style bikes (the Jordaan and the Sportief) comes with everything you need; the Sportief includes premium LED front + rear lights. The Jordaan includes premium LED front + rear lights. Our Amsterdam series are made to be more lightweight, so we leave it up to you to choose what you want to add from our selection of premium accessories available through our webshop.

What materials do you use in your bikes?

We can’t stress it enough: we strive to offer a long-lasting positive cycling experience. That’s why our bikes come with 100% aluminium lightweight frames and rust-free components – without any hidden surprises… Expect premium components and reliable Shimano gearing features. Ride like a champ!

 

Where are your bikes made?

We design our Dutch style bicycles in Amsterdam and Melbourne, based on feedback from commuters all around the world – just one of the benefits of us selling our products worldwide. In the design process, we select components from the best suppliers we can find, sourcing components from across the world. Just to name a few, we equip our bikes with premium headlights from the Netherlands, GATES belt drive components and NuVinci hubs from the US, wicker baskets handmade in Indonesia and Shimano components from Japan. Our lightweight 100% aluminium frames are produced in China.

All in all, our designs are a selection of internationally sourced components to create a premium and lightweight but yet affordable commuter bicycle. Before the bike is shipped to your door or picked up at one of our brand stores, it is locally assembled in Australia by one of our dedicated bike mechanics.

How much do your bikes weigh?

Our bikes weigh anywhere from 9 to 15 kg, depending on model and size of the bike. Our electric bikes weigh 27 kg (incl. battery). What makes us different from many other bike brands is that all Lekker models’ frames and front forks are made from 100% rust free and lightweight aluminium. Lightweight bikes are easy to carry and handle, making it easy peasy for you to bring your Lekker ride inside if you don’t have the option to park it outside. We make sure to source each component as light as possible. Because we care about you, your cycling experience… and your back.

Our Story

Launched early 2009, our Amsterdam based bicycle brand LEKKER has captured the attention of urban cyclist worldwide. We have taken the widely acclaimed Dutch Bicycle Design – that has been part of our culture since 1885 – and added modern day technology to offer everything a daily commuter could only ask for. This resulted in a striking range of LEKKER Bicycles to inspire the world to embrace cycling like the Dutch.

It was founder Meindert who left Amsterdam for Australia’s Bondi Beach and immediately fell in love with all that Australia has to offer. But, there was just one thing missing: his bicycle.

A commuter bike that he could ride to and from the beach, to Varsity, to the market, to his buddy’s house, and then home. Meindert wanted a Dutch-design bike, but finding such a two-wheeler proved to be difficult, and he ended up buying a bike from one of his Dutch friends.

Enthusiastic responses to his bike from Australians inspired him to bring a quality, beautiful, stylish and, above all, cool bicycle to Down Under. He wanted to create a bike that would ride and look like a dream. The series of bikes took shape in late 2009. No word could better describe what he had always envisaged the bike to be: LEKKER.

In other words: Born in Amsterdam, Raised in Australia.

Would it be possible to go faster than 25km per hour on my eBike?

The motor of your eBike will be capped at 25km/h in line with regulations, however your eBike will not be gated and would  allow you to pedal as fast as you want (also beyond 25km/h) using your legs. You would then paddle without further assistance as you would on any conventional bike.

Would it be possible to change the speed limit of “the motor of” my eBike for it to go faster than 25km/h?

Your safety and that of your fellow road users is of utmost importance. LEKKER is committed to responsible eBiking in line with applicable laws and regulations. Riding tuned eBikes with a speed limit above 25km/h is against the law, will void the warranty on your eBike, insurance coverage and can have serious legal consequences. The LEKKER team will therefore not answer any questions on the (possibility of) tuning of eBikes.

    The bicycle industry is however facing continued uncertainty in its supply chain. In short, there are too few parts and components available at the moment, our suppliers therefore are not always able to meet their promised deadlines and the limited transport possibilities caused by the Coronavirus pandemic are still restricting the international movement of goods.

    Our top priority is being as reliable & transparent as possible when it comes to delivering your bike to you. We are in close contact with our suppliers in order to be able to react quickly to changes in component availability should this impact delivery times communicated to our customers.
